Bret is a senior field examiner specializing in venture banking exams with a niche in recurring revenue and churn. Bret examines tech and life sciences borrowers with varying formula lines of credit and facilities from $5 to $80 million. He serves in the Bluewater Lender Analytics practice.

Bret is strong with straight-line, hybrid, and usage based revenue models. He goes beyond ARR and MRR to assess cohorts, gross and net revenue retention, and LTV to CAC. He looks to flag revenue overstatement tied to expected write-offs and other availability risks to lenders. He is comfortable with cross-border operations, mixed currencies, and practical ASC 606 application. Bret is experienced with US head offices and EU, APAC, and Oceania operations.

Bret’s experience in management, banking operations, and project processing allows him to quickly assess fluid environments and find solutions to complex problems. He has high proficiency in Excel and has been a Certified Fraud Examiner since 2015. He earned a BS in Marketing and Accounting from Oregon State University. He enjoys exercising, exotic cuisine, and a good sense of humor. He has lived abroad for several years, spending time in the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Thailand, Japan and Portugal.
